CTLA's Virtual Food Drive for Connecticut Foodshare

In Connecticut, roughly 360,000 residents rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which typically delivers about $75 million in food benefits each month to households across the state. During the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that it would use contingency funds to provide about half of November SNAP benefits, and states expect deposits to arrive later than usual. This reduced funding and the uncertainty around timing are adding pressure to local food assistance efforts.

CTLA is launching a Virtual Food Drive to support Connecticut Foodshare through the holiday season and beyond. Our initial goal is to raise $15,000 by December 15, 2025. Every contribution – large or small – moves us closer to ensuring no Connecticut family has to choose between food and other essentials this winter.

A Message from the President

My fellow trial lawyers,

It is an honor and a privilege to begin my term as President of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. CTLA is more than a professional home. It is a community bound by purpose, united by service, and defined by the belief that courts must be open, the law must be fair, and every person deserves a real chance to be heard.

President Peter Dreyer

I invite you to lean in. Attend a program you have never tried. Join a committee aligned with your practice. Share a brief, an expert, or a strategy with a colleague who needs a sounding board. Call me or any officer when you see a challenge or an opportunity for CTLA to lead. Our association is at its best when members drive the agenda and we move forward together.

Press Release

CTLA Supports the Rule of Law and the Sanctity of Lawyers' Obligations to Advocate for Their Clients

A few weeks ago, CTLA issued a statement in support of our judiciary and the rule of law. Since then, disparagement of judicial integrity has continued, and the administration has retaliated against law firms that have represented causes it disfavors with a series of executive orders. ...

These actions threaten the rule of law, a cornerstone of our democratic political system. Our adversarial adjudicative process depends on the freedom for zealous advocates to present opposing sides of a case. All of us know that you can't represent a client on your knees. If lawyers who represent some clients can only do so under threat of retaliation, our democracy will suffer.
