Attorney Lyon will be the moderator for a Q&A Session with two ALJs in the Commission: Hon. Judges Blake and Watson
- 1:30pm- 2:00pm: Life After Your Workers’ Compensation Claim
Come meet Karen Sargent, supervisor for Division of Workers’ Rehabilitation Services, as she explains the requirements, process, and benefits of the Vocational Rehabilitation Program available to all Claimants through the Commission
- 2:00pm – 2:15pm: BREAK
- 2:15pm -3:00pm: Advocacy through Amicus Briefs
Attorney Drapeau will take us through the steps of how to gather support through the Amicus Committee at the CTLA, submitting petitions, brief writing and support. He’ll discuss the Cochran and Martinoli cases generally and how Amicus briefs may assist in the appeals process. Working Groups, Task Froces and their Impact on the Legislative Process.
- 3:00pm – 3:30pm: Updates from the Legal Advisory Committee
Attorney Morizio will explain the role of the Legal Advisory Committee and how discussions at the table can implement change. He’ll discuss the efforts to increase Attorneys’ Fees from 20% to 25% and the effectiveness and enforcement of Chairman Memorandums.
- 3:30pm -4:00pm: Working Groups, Task Forces and Legislative Committees
Attorneys Shafner and Beckert will explain why and how working groups and task forces are established by various Committees, who gets selected on them, the role and dialogue within the group, public hearings, and formulating recommendations to the Committee. They’ll then explain how the research and recommendations from most recent 31-308a Working Group impacted proposed bills this session regarding increasing the weeks for PPD benefits to the neck, and other positive outcomes.
